Over the past decade, I have photographed dozens of families. Families with one baby, two toddlers, a new baby and a toddler...new baby, toddler and a five-year-old and the list goes on!
The key words here are BABY and TODDLER. These two particular age groups mean that you have to be on at every moment, whether it means breastfeeding your new little one or tending to your toddlers request to remove the crust from his/her PB&J (or perhaps defuse their tantrums about having a new little brother or sister, based on their confusion about no longer being the center of attention). These are real-life things that happen all of the time. Amidst the balancing act that you as parents are already juggling, you desperately want to document your growing family in an authentic way!
For those of you with 1,2,3 small children, I am speaking to you. At-home family sessions are an incredible way to capture those sweet interactions before nap time and have everything you need at your disposal for a comfortable and fun portrait session. I come to you, and you all remain in the comforts of your home. It is a simple recipe for natural, loving, interactive images that are a true reflection of this time in your lives.
The family below (#meetthejains) are FABULOUS clients of mine who got married in 2014. I photographed their SF yacht engagement party and personal engagement session in 2013, their wedding in 2014, their maternity session in 2015 and their first family session in 2016. Early this year, we opted to do their 6th session in their home (access to both the play nook AND the bed/couch at the same time!). We had a blast, and I cannot recommend this approach more confidently.
