WORKING WITH MY HANDS + MY HEART TO DOCUMENT PEAPLE + PROJECTS THAT MATTER
Global Student Embassy (GSE)
Global Student Embassy’s mission is to develop community leaders through action oriented environmental education. In the Fall of 2013, I had the honor of traveling to Nicaragua documenting there exchange program in Chacraseca. GSE’s Youth Leadership and Organic Farming Program includes 240 students at 5 schools using organic farming methods. Students develop skills to grow healthy local food and to promote community health in the community. It was an honor to photograph the children, the thriving garden project and visit nearby locations such as La Clinica Verde and a local Maternity Clinic as potential partners with GSE Projects.
In 2014, I was fortunate to participate and document the Ecuador Exchange program with students from various Bay Area highschools. GSE’s Eco-Action Education program in Bahia de Caraquez involves 125 students at 4 schools in restoring their local environment and engaging their community in sustainable practices. Students were focused on reforestation, recycling, water scarcity, organic agriculture, climate change, and the effects these issues have on the local community. I loved witnessing such an integrated, educational and priceless experience for students through the lens. I look forward to future collaborative work with this conscious + community-driven organization. Learn more: GSE

"Calling This Home"- Photography Documentary
the IRC delivers lifesaving care to people fleeing conflict and natural disaster. Year after year, the IRC is one of the highest-ranking nonprofits for accountability, transparency, and efficient use of contributions. Across 40 countries and in 22 U.S. cities, the IRC is helping to restore safety and dignity to millions forced to flee from war, persecution and natural disaster. My work with the IRC has been documenting refugee individuals and families residing in the Bay Area for a book called "Calling This Home" telling their stories of re-locating in the USA. I will also be working on a photography documentary in Tanzania with the IRC's Child Labor Initiative.
